Why I Started Organized by Design
Organized by Design Solutions really came from my own work experience and realizing how many different skills I’ve picked up over the years that can help small business owners.
I’ve worked in teaching, real estate, and with a small business owner in the construction industry. Each job was different, but all of them taught me a lot about staying organized, planning ahead, communicating with people, and keeping track of all the little details that can easily get missed.
Teaching taught me how to take a lot of information and break it down into a plan that people can actually follow. It also taught me how to manage a lot of things at once and adjust when something doesn't go as planned.
Real estate was another lesson in organization. There are deadlines, paperwork, appointments, clients and a lot of communication. You have to know what needs to happen, when it needs to happen, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks.
Working with a small business owner in construction gave me a completely different perspective. I helped with payroll, tracking projects and documents, and communicating with subcontractors, engineers and architects about the different tasks that needed to be completed.
That's when I really saw how much small business owners have on their plates.
When you're running a business, you're often doing everything. You're answering emails, talking to customers, keeping up with paperwork, managing projects, following up with people and trying to actually get your work done. It's easy for things to end up scattered across emails, spreadsheets, calendars, paperwork and notes.
And sometimes the problem isn't that you're disorganized. You simply have too much to keep track of.
That's really where Organized by Design Solutions came from.
I want to help small business owners get some of those things off their plate. That could mean organizing projects and documents, creating checklists and processes, keeping track of deadlines and follow-ups, or taking a bunch of ideas and turning them into an actual plan.
Organization can also mean taking care of the things that help your business grow.
Planning an event, setting up a training, coordinating a meeting or putting together a workshop all take time. Having someone help with those details can give you that time back to focus on your business.
I don't think organization needs to be complicated. It just needs to work for you and your business.
That's what I'm hoping to do with Organized by Design Solutions — take the skills I've gained from my different experiences and use them to help small business owners get organized, make a plan and get some time back.
Because sometimes you don't need to do more.
You just need a better way to manage what you're already doing.
